Summer Vacation Road Trip Part 2

Summer Vacation Road Trip Part 2 – read part 1 here.

I decided to go to Idaho Falls to experience the total solar eclipse. But what was I going to do with the rest of my 2 week vacation? A road trip sounded awesome. I didn’t want to put 1000s of miles on my car and let’s be real, sitting in a car for days isn’t the most comfortable thought. What was a girl to do?  Get an RV!

Rent an RV

We have a great, place here in the South Bay, where a person can rent RVs of all shapes and sizes.  Family RV is the place and the folks there are fantastic!   Crystal and Clyde took great care of us; from rental agreement, to questions we had on the road through return of the vehicle.  Seriously, we called Clyde several times with questions. Questions about the AC, the TV and the Water tanks (we’re obviously newbies to RVs). He answered all of them, no matter what day or time. Their motto is: “we want your vacation and rental experience to be great”. Clyde makes sure you know that he doesn’t want questions or issues with his vehicle to negatively impact your fun.

We rented a Thor 24SR – Mercedes, diesel, 25 foot “Siesta” with slide outs in the back and side and it was excellent.  The diesel had the power we needed to get up an over the mountain ranges and a great transmission that even auto shifted down on the declines.  Thomas said it was a dream to drive. But, I was too nervous to drive such a big vehicle, so he did it, all 2613 miles of it!

So, where all did we go for that many miles?  Glad you asked.  Our road trip took us from the South Bay area in California to Barstow, CA., the Hoover Dam in Nevada/Arizona, Hurricane UT, Moab UT, Salt Lake City UT, Idaho Falls ID (for the eclipse), Twin Falls ID, Winnemucca NV,  past lake Tahoe to Auburn CA and home again.

This was an epic adventure and one of the most fun vacations we’ve ever taken.  RV life is truly unique.  Just about every place we stayed was terrific (the exception was Nat Soo Pah Hot Springs in Twin Falls ID, but that’s for another post).  RV people are happy people; they smile, they wave, they wish you “good morning” and they’re enthusiastic about helping us newbies learn the ropes.  As their saying goes “we were all newbies at one time, someone showed us the ropes, we’re happy continue the tradition and welcome you to our way of life”.  With all the garbage going on in the country (and the world) today, it was absolutely wonderful to meet the kind souls of the RV-ing world.
