Summer Vacation Road Trip – Off to Moab

Off to moab!

I’m back with the next installment of our Summer Vacation Road Trip.  In this installment, we head from the Hoover Dam to Moab, UT with a stop off in Hurricane.

Welcome to Utah!

We left Hoover Dam in the late afternoon and headed East toward Utah.  I knew we wouldn’t make it all the way to Moab that same day, so I booked a spot at the KOA in St.George/Hurricane.  It was nice little two hour drive at the end of our day at the Dam and only four hours away from Moab. A good Tweener spot with beautiful scenery.

My Guy and I, got to Hurricane in time for a peaceful dinner, some fireside relaxing and good night’s sleep.  We were up by 7am the next morning for what we call a “camping breakfast”, featuring; scrambled eggs, potatoes and bacon. All of which, we cooked in an iron skillet over the open fire.  Yum!

Next stop – Moab!

We were all packed up and moving on out by 9am. Did I mention that RV-ers get up REALLY early??  I always thought vacation was about sleeping late and taking it easy. However, not when you’re RV-ing, there’s too much to see and do. Too many places to explore.  Don’t  spend your time lazing around in bed.  Save the lazing for hotel vacations. Such is, life on the road.

Heading East across Utah the scenery is spectacular!

Castle Valley

We pulled off at a look out point and took some terrific photos of a place called Castle Valley.  I’m not even sure exactly where we were when we saw the sign for the look out, but boy am I glad we stopped.

These rock formations are absolutely immense, though it’s hard to tell from the perspective of the photographs.  We actually drove between the “Castles”. Our RV was dwarfed by them. It was an awesome feeling driving through there. On the approach you couldn’t tell where the road went and then suddenly you were between the rock mountains.  Super Cool!

Stay tuned for my next installment of Our Summer Vacation Road Trip, where we actually make it to Moab!  Or check out earlier installments in the series here.
