Summer Vacation Road Trip Part 1

Hello Friends.  Wow, we just got back from one of the most amazing Summer Vacation trips ever!  Now, I get to sit down and tell you all about it.

It all began in May when I was trying to figure out what to do for our Summer vacation. Yes, I left planning to the last minute, I know, my bad.  I was looking around on Trip Advisor for something fun to do and stumbled upon some information on the upcoming Solar Eclipse.  Hmmm, “that sounds like a really cool idea”; I thought.  Seeing a total solar eclipse really appealed to me. I remember seeing a partial eclipse during my 7th grade Science class and how cool it was learning about eclipses.  So, I began investigating – the internet is a wonderful thing!

I realize that many people had known about the total solar eclipse crossing the U.S. this August, for years.  I guess I’ve been living under a rock since this was the first I’d realized it was going to happen. Here. Where I could actually witness “totality” (the full eclipse of the sun by the moon, turning day into night for a minute or two – if you’re in the path). Suddenly, I really wanted to be in the path! Let the planning begin..

First, I looked at all the towns and cities that were in the path of totality. I needed to decide where I wanted to watch the eclipse. I noticed that Idaho Falls, ID was going to be a NASA viewing site.  Heck, I wanted to visit Idaho anyway (a place on my list of good spots to retire). So, that’s how easy it was to choose which spot to view the awesome event from. Finding accommodations was much more difficult.  I believe I got the last hotel room in all of Idaho Falls. I booked us into the Best Western Plus Cotton tree Inn (I’ll review the hotel in another post, but know it was great).

It was then that I realized that my vacation only consisted of 3 days. What was I going to do with the rest of my 2 weeks off? Road Trip!!  For more of the story look for part 2.
